ABSTRACT

Objective To study the epidemiological characteristics on the clustering nature of pandemic (H1N1) 2009 in China. Methods Time and place distribution of pandemic (H1N1) 2009on the nature of clustering through data from Public Health Emergency Management Information System were described. Results As of August 10,2010,2773 pandemic (H1N1) 2009 clusters,a total of 77363 cases (including 20 deaths) were reported in the mainland of China. The most reported number of clusters was from schools and kindergartens with the total number of 2498 (accounted for 90.08% of the total number).Middle schools appeared the have the most clusters (1223,accounting for 48.96% ).The number of clusters reported in the southern provinces (cities) accounted for 77.03% of the total, and was more than that in the northern provinces (cities). Two reported peaks in the southern provinces (cities) were in June and November,2009,respectively.There was only one reported peakin the northern provinces in September,2009.Conclusion Time and place distribution characteristics on the clusters of pandemic (H1N1) 2009 were similar to the seasonal influenza, but the beginning of winter peak was much earlier and intensity of reporting was much higher on the clusters of pandemic (H1N1 ) 2009 than that of seasonal influenza.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>During 2003-2005, an outbreak of meningitis due to Neisseria meningitidis serogroup C occurred in China. With the aim to find strain clues result in the final epidemics, the ancestral strain 053442, a clinical isolate, and a carrier strain 053426 with different gene type were analyzed.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Clinical strain 053442 and carrier strain 053426 were cultured on GC agar plates under the same condition. Two-dimensional electrophoresis was performed using the pH 3-10 nonlinear IPG strips of 24 cm length, and all the protein spots were identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight spectrometry.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>502 and 380 protein spots were identified in 053426 and 053442 respectively, relating to 266 and 202 different genes covering a wide range of cellular functions. The express volume and number of proteins involved in energy metabolism, protein synthesis and amino acid biosynthesis in 053426 were higher than in 053442. Virulence factor Opa, Opc and a series of proteins involved in pilus assembly and retraction were identified in 053442, which appear to be of primary importance in colonization and invasion of human cells. Compared to 053442, virulence protein species were less in 053426, with lower express volumes too. No Opa and Opc were detected in 053426.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The different protein expression profiles of the clinical strain 053442 and carrier strain 053426 in the present study provide some clues of the different pathogenicity of the two strains, which may account for result in the final epidemics.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the enhancing effect of compound Kusheg injection in chemotherapy for patients with stage III and IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A total of 286 patients with advanced NSCLC were enrolled in this study. The patients were treated with either compound Kusheng injection in combination with NP (NVB + CBP) chemotherapy (vinorelbine and carboplatin, n = 144), or with NP (NVB + CBP) chemotherapy alone (n = 142). The chemotherapy was performed for 4 cycles of 3 weeks, and the therapeutic efficacy was evaluated every 2 weeks. The following indicators were observed: levels of Hb, WBC, PLT and T cell subpopulations in blood, serum IgG level, short-term efficacy, adverse effects and quality of life.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The gastrointestinal reactions and the myelosuppression in the combination chemotherapy group were alleviated as compared with the chemotherapy alone group, showing a significant difference (P < 0.05). CD(8)(+) cells were markedly declined in the combination chemotherapy group, and the CD(4)(+)/CD(8)(+) ratio showed an elevation trend in the chemotherapy alone group. The KPS scores and serum IgM and IgG levels were higher in the combination chemotherapy group than those in the chemotherapy alone group (P < 0.01 and P < 0.05). The serum lgA levels were not significantly different in the two groups.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The compound Kusheng injection plus NP chemotherapy regimen shows better therapeutic effect, reduces adverse effects of chemotherapy and improves the quality of life in patients with stage III and IV NSCLC.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective: To identify the functional domain of ?-Synuclein in affecting mitochondrial function and how the function to be impaired, especially, the mitochondrial membrane potential and the release of Cytochrome c.Methods: Harvest of ?-Syn-N and ?-Syn-△N by PCR,then subcloned into the pCMV-Myc mammalian expression vector. The recombinant plasmids were transfected into HEK293T cells by Lipofectamine 2000.After detecting the protein expression by Western blot, the functional domain was detected by co-immunoprecipitation.The mitochondrial membrane potential through flow cytometry and immunofluorescence,at the same time, the release of Cytochrome c through flow cytometry to detect. Results: The recombinant plasmids were constructed successfully.CO-IP has proved that N-terminal may be the functional domain of ?-Synuclein in affecting mitochondria.Over-expression of N-terminal could depolarize the mitochondrial membrane potential and induce the Cytochrome c releasing in MN9D cells. Conclusion: N-terminal may be the functional domain of ?-synuclein and over-expression of N-terminal could decrease mitochondrial activity.
